YAI GIVE 2025
Be the power behind possibility

For people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), independence isn't just a goal, it's a right.
Your support helps YAI invest in assistive technologies that empower autonomy and dignity. From smart lights that improve sleep to apps that bridge communication barriers, your gift transforms lives.
Meet Suzy, Connor, and Leon, three individuals using assistive tech to shape their futures.
Navigating Life with Meta Glasses
Suzy McCabe once felt overwhelmed by technology. Now, her Meta Glasses help her read her schedule aloud, call family, check the weather, and explore her neighborhood.
“Hey Meta, take me to The Village Bookstore in Pleasantville.”
With growing confidence, Suzy plans to use her glasses for shopping, cooking, and sharing book reviews, opening doors to possibilities that were once out of reach.

Among surveyed adults with I/DD, under 45% used digital devices

Building Confidence with Visual Supports
Connor Shea, a 17-year-old student at Manhattan Star Academy, uses a Video Visual Scene Display (VvSD) to support communication and build independence.
“It helped me with the tools to shop and I felt more confident.”
With the help of the VvSD app on his iPad, Connor shopped for groceries, requested specialty items, and checked out on his own, helping him take real steps toward self-reliance.
Medication Independence with PillDrill
Leon Owens uses PillDrill, a medication management system, to take his meds independently, something he once relied on staff to do.
“It’s helping me get ready to live independently …one day, I hope to have my own place.”
For someone who has difficulty reading, this technology has been life-changing. Leon now takes his own medication, giving him the freedom and confidence to work toward his dream of living on his own.

About 22% of people with disabilities lack stable internet access, and many face slower, less reliable connections.

"YAI has been part of Michael's life for 23 years, and the growth we've seen has been remarkable. As a parent, knowing that he has a safe home and the opportunity to continue building his skills through supported programs means everything to me. Supporting YAI truly changes lives, not just for people like Michael, but for their families too."
- Bernice Polinsky, Michael's mother
